Clinical Psychologist
Are you interested in mental health research and clinical practice? Do you want to work in either your own practice or hospital setting? Clinical psychology can be an option for you!
This field applies psychological research and techniques in “clinical” settings. Clinical Psychologists observe and work directly with patients in clinics and related settings. You can focus on clinical research, practice, or a combination of the two.
Apply to Clinical Psychology Graduate school (by December 1st) --> Masters and Ph.D. combined (6 years).
Experimental Psychologist
These are the typical graduate school applications many students do. You would choose a university and professor you like and apply to work under them. If you like conducting experiments, running studies, and other research aspects this is something you should pursue! There are various types of research you can specialize in as a PNB - Mental Health student. From animal behaviour to specific disorders make sure you do your research before starting applications!

Psychiatrist
If you want to become a practicing doctor with the ability to prescribe medicine after hours of speaking to the patients and understanding their mental health disorder, a psychiatrist is the path to go. Write your MCAT and become competitive with your high score, high grades, and extracurriculars. Once you get into medical school, you will then choose to become a psychiatrist (with residency etc.)
Psychotherapist
If you want to work with patients in mental health settings but are not too interested in research this may be good for you.
Psychotherapists are therapists who specialize in talk therapy. You can do various types of therapies such as CBT, Cognitive, humanistic etc.
You only have to do 2.5 years (Master's) to become a psychotherapist and start practicing. It is very similar to a counselling psychologist but more focused on mental health rather than wellbeing.
Counselling Psychologist
Counsellors tend to focus more on wellbeing. They provide insight on how to overcome one's challenges or problems. Counsellors use similar or the same techniques to psychotherapists and many universities that you apply to will be for psychotherapy and counselling!
Psychometrist
Do you love statistics and assessments? Psychometrists administer and analyze various tests such as academic, psychological, neuropsychological, or personality tests.
You would need (on top of your undergraduate degree):
Experience in administering and scoring cognitive tests and standardized questionnaires.
Minimum of 2 years of clinical work experience
Lawyer
With a psychology background, becoming a lawyer can be another great pathway. You can utilize the skills you learned which may even help while writing the LSAT. Just ensure your grades and LSAT score are high and you are good to apply!

To become a psychologist, many jobs will require you to be registered or eligible to be registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. You would need to have a doctoral degree in Psychology with 2 years clinical experience.
Psychologists can make starting $50 dollars an hour so do not think that pursuing a career in psychology is not possible, or that it will not suffice for income support. Even after graduating from undergrad, mental health research analyst make starting $25 dollars an hour. Make sure you do your research on potential careers as many PNB- Mental Health students focus on Clinical Psychology or Psychiatry as their only options.
